So I blew it but still wanted to share the exciting news regardless. Late last year, I tried out to be included in an Alaska Airlines In-Flight magazine. The writer was looking for opinions about where the design trends were heading for 2012. I submitted my ideas and was shocked that I was one of the chosen professionals! The article went to print in March, entertained countless amounts of travelers (this I’m guessing) and appeared online as a digital copy as well. Soooooo…life got really hectic around that time, and I wasn’t able to blog about the inclusion. I blew it, because the article isn’t online anymore for anyone to read. But, on the plus side, I did take some screen shots while it was still up and I do have a printed copy for a memento!
I spoke a lot about mixing styles and using rustic and reclaimed woods. Especially in homes that have children. The reason– so you can actually LIVE in your home instead of worry about every little dent and scratch. I also spoke about the “Industrial Trend” and how it mixes so well with rustic woods. It can feel very natural and simplistic. I also talked about the overuse of painted accent walls and instead trying something new like an accent wallpaper wall or doing something fun to your ceiling.
As I read through the article, something else caught my eye. A familiar name in the industry and someone that I consider an expert on color as well as a mentor for Interior Designers. Maria Killam, a decorator and blogger located in Canada, was also included in this article. I felt honored to have my ideas printed on the very same page as hers. I was star struck =) If you love design and want to read a design blog that actually teaches you something rather just posts pretty pictures (nothing wrong with those though), head on over to Maria’s blog {HERE}. It’s fantastic.
